Document verification checks that an identity document is genuine and belongs to the person presenting it. Facephi scans the document, extracts its data with OCR, validates the MRZ and analyses its security features to detect forgeries before onboarding continues.
Machine learning models analyse the document’s security features and compare them with those of the original model, while the extracted data is checked for consistency with the MRZ. This helps detect forged documents, manipulated genuine documents and digital alterations.
For documents with an electronic chip, such as many ID cards and passports, the user holds the document against their phone. The chip data is read and compared with the printed data, adding a further level of assurance to the verification.
Official identity documents such as ID cards, passports and driving licences can be verified, using the document’s visual security features, its MRZ and, when available, its NFC chip.
